Spello – a lesson in perspective

Reaching for ripe olives might be what Spello is known for but no matter where, how or why you looked… this place was the breeding ground for every lesson in perspective. No I am not alluding to some complicated philosophical historical view. This is the simple visual point of view that focused art after the reformation. Look!

You knew this was coming around again to the Last Supper. Luigi Silvi gathers a reverend crowd in an attempt to modernize the concept. The cosak folds and the halo receding hairlines twist perspective into parody. There is something very funny about the image and yet the historical perspective is absent. There is no story of remembrance, only a night on the town. We are not done with this reformation business.
