Guarding and other stimulants

In a shopping mall (yes, I went shopping) an exhibit of restored posters captures the colorized image of Bridget Bardot.  Now that was a sleazy move, using her image to get your attention!  On reading the fine print the poster credits noted that she lived in Buzios (a suburb of Rio) in 1964.  Now that in itself might put you on your guard, however her presence in the burb created a tourist ground swell that marks even our present celebrations of Mardi Gras.

On the walkway above the strand (away from the guard tower) a young guard wrapped in rankings of his trade is surrounded by a harem of tourists seeking life-saving information.  There is sand in my sandal.  The drizzle could mess my presentation.  Do you exercise everyday?  When is your shift over?  The lifeguard is perched above the sands in his “lonely wooden tower” and when he descends the waters part for him.  The reeds bow down. People drown.

In the doorway of the Jiu-Jitsu school  there is always an enrolling invitation to become a ‘master’ of self defense.  A master of self.  A master of guarding the way.  The lonely lessons.  The work-out. The promise of conquest.  In step with my search for discipline the lesson plan emerges.  The instructor is more than wise, one might say even seasoned.  I stood on the threshold waiting for inspiration and then walked on by!

In the poster sized street mural, the big fish swallows everyone.  A Jonah story.  The secret embedded in the collage of images is not immediately visible.  The 911 of the superscript foreshadows a rescue.  A guarded picture of years.  The coloured mosaic is the groundwork for a life of dreams!
