The connection between these three historical figures was textbook clear. Yet when I walked into the exhibit at the Nieuwe Kerk an overwhelming emotional gratitude struck my white listening ears. These three individuals had fought against systemic racism for over 100 years. Internalizing the lessons of history has never been easy and acknowledging our wrongs has been even harder. The three larger than life quotes might be how we should live.

The change from entitled lawyer to servant.

The change from talking about Jesus to doing Jesus.

The change from prisoner to a freeman.

There is no way to summarize the exhibit or the visit. At moments Margaret and I would simply glance at each other and say, “Wow!”. Powerful feelings.
