The colours of image on the wall reflect in paint what Octavio Paz calls “the independence that offers the same ambiguous image as the Conquest.” The history of the Americas is laced with a dual significance and as Paz puts it: the dismembering of the corpse of imperialism and the birth of a number of new nations. There is an interwoven history yet it is more patchwork than we might want to admit. The signage under the serving counter hints at the underlying reason.

The quilt of signage underscores the menu. Food at the tideline. One could easily say it’s here just becuz! At the waters edge a pale specimen braves the waves. The warm water welcome.

To gather a view of the road ahead the lighthouse flashes across the waves. As the emerald surf breaks on the rocks and the sifted sand is demarked by beach furniture the horizon hints at a place to go from and at a place to go to. The historical monument like the Cuzz cafe point at a turning of the tables, an emerging of a tidal order, a hint of blue that masks the tides of time.
